Forty portraits were made in forty years by the Brown sisters. Photographer Nicholas Nixon has photographed women every year since 1975, and the latest photograph in the series has just been published. This, at first simple, project became from year to year special, because rarely extends a photo series over such a long period of time.
Nicholas Nixon visited his wife’s family, which can also be seen in the photos. He asked her and her three sisters, on a whim, if he could photograph them. That was in the summer of 1975, when the first black-and-white photo of the four young women was taken. With casual posture and summer clothes, he photographed the women against a background of trees and lawns.
