The successful A&E reality show accompanies the Robertson family while they live their “redneck” hunting life in Louisiana. The high ratings speak for themselves, but now some dark secrets about the “Duck Dynasty” are revealed that you certainly haven’t heard of before!

1. Not a good childhood

Jep Robertson has written a book about the terrible and formative years of his childhood. The book was published in 2015. When the many unspeakable things happened, he was just 6 years old. The title of the book is: The Good, the Evil and the Grace of God: What Honesty and Pain taught us about faith, family and forgiveness.

2. No sense anymore

If you can believe what he says, Reed Robertson has seen no more sense in his life because of his fame, which has completely overwhelmed him. Supposedly his parents found out about it and persuaded him to change his life from the ground up. It became known that Jase Robertson was thrown out of a Trump International Hotel. Incredible as it may sound, the hotel staff had apparently mistaken him for a homeless person and had security escort him outside. Perhaps he should consider trimming his beard a little now and then, taking regular showers, and choosing some tidier clothes.

We are used to many things, but to say something like that publicly on television is quite a lot. Robertson explained that he believes that life was not bad for dark-skinned people in the pre-civil rights era. Considering that he himself became the grandfather of an African-American grandchild in 2016, one wonders how well thought out his comment was.

Allegedly Phil Robertson is said to have broken off an interview with Barbara Walters. The strange reason for this is that he was described as one of the “most fascinating people” – maybe he just wanted to go hunting rather than picking up laurels that he thought were not his due.

8. The aborted study

The family member Silas, called Uncle Si, has dropped out of his studies. He had studied for three semesters at the Technical University of Louisiana before he decided to leave them for “hard partying”. He explained that from his point of view, and especially for him, studying is “crap”.

Are they proud of it, so to speak? One does not know and maybe it is better that way! The siblings Phil and Silas Robertson admit to excessive alcohol consumption. In the book published by Uncle Si, he also explains how his alcohol consumption during his service in Vietnam affected him. In his already mentioned book, Jep Robertson also writes about his dependence on various illicit substances, all of which almost caused the marriage with his wife Jessica to break up. He explains that for years he tried to keep his addictions secret and only sought help when one day, after an overdose, he felt incredibly bad.

Phil Robertson’s idea of marrying young women is still considered very controversial.
